 MHT-CET Engineering (Maharasthra State Common Entrance Test for Engineering 2008)

 Introduction:

The entrance examination for the selection to all Health Science Degree Courses, Engineering and Pharmacy degree courses in State of Maharashtra for the academic year 2008-09 shall be conducted by the Competent Authority appointed by Government of Maharashtra. The Common Entrance Test (MHT-CET 2008) will be held on Thursday, 8th May 2008, at all the district headquarters in the State of Maharashtra.

 SCHEME OF MHT-CET 2008 EXAMINATION:

 Schedule & Test Design: The MHT-CET-2008 will consist of three question papers. Each paper is of    100 marks.

- Paper I : Physics & Chemistry (50 marks each)
- Paper II : Biology (Botany & Zoology - 50 marks each)
- Paper III : Mathematics (100 Marks)

There is no choice among the questions, i.e. all questions have to be answered. The candidate desirous of selection to Health Science courses and BVSc & AH should appear for Paper I & Paper II. The candidate desirous of selection to Engineering degree courses should appear for Paper I and Paper III and the candidate desirous of selection to Pharmacy degree course should appear for Paper I & Paper-II and/or Paper-III. Those Candidates appearing only for Paper I and Paper II will be provided with one single OMR answer sheet for both papers: those appearing only for Paper I and Paper III will be given separate OMR answer sheets with each question paper and those candidates appearing for all the three papers will be given one single OMR answer sheet for Paper I & Paper II and a separate OMR answer sheet for Paper III. At the end of paper/session student will handover the OMR Answer sheet and Question booklet to the invigilator.

 Syllabus of Examination:

Syllabi of Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Mathematics for the MHT-CET-2008 will be the same as for the current year for HSC Examination (i.e. March 2008) of HSC Boards of Maharashtra.

 Examination Centre:

The MHT-CET-2008 will be conducted at all the district headquarters of the State of Maharashtra. The MHT-CET examination center will be within the same district from where the candidate has passed / is appearing at the qualifying examination i.e. HSC/12th Standard examination. For the eligible candidates passing qualifying examination from outside the state of Maharashtra, the Competent Authority shall allot the examination center. The centre of examination for candidates who have passed their HSC (12th Std) or equivalent examination from an institution situated outside the state of Maharashtra (Candidates eligible under Rule 4.7 and Rule 4.8 of this Brochure and Type B, Type C, Type D and Type F of Engineering and Pharmacy Brochures) shall be the district/headquarter of the Divisional Authority where he/she has submitted MHT-CET 2008 Application Form. The center once allotted by the Competent Authority shall not be changed under any circumstances.

 Eligibility Criteria:

Candidate should be an Indian National and should have passed/appeared* the HSC (Std.XII) examination of Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education or its equivalent examination with subjects English, Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics.

Maharashtra State candidates (defined as per rule no. 3.1) and OMS candidates (defined as per rule no. 3.2) are eligible to appear for the MHT-CET-2008 conducted by the Competent Authority of Government of Maharashtra for the academic year 2008–2009.

 Other eligibility criteria for specialized branches of Engineering (check 2.10):

Candidates seeking admission to some special courses or under some special provisions have to fulfill the following additional eligibility criteria.

- Admission to Bio- Medical/Bio-tech Engineering course :
  Candidates seeking admission to Biomedical/Bio-Tech Engineering course should have passed in the   subject of Biology in the qualifying examination in addition to fulfilling the Eligibility criteria as mentioned   in rule no. 2.1.

- Admission to Mining Engineering course:
  Female candidates are not eligible for admission to Mining Engineering course.

- Admission to Marine Engineering Course in Padm. Vasantdada Patil Pratishtan’s College of       Engineering, Sion, Mumbai:
  Candidates aspiring to take admission to Marine Engineering Course in the following institute should   directly contact the Principal of the college for eligibility criteria (Educational Qualification & Entrance   Test) and admission process.

 Eligibility criteria of Candidates who have passed/passing Diploma in Engineering/Technology     and seeking admission to First Year of Engineering/Technology in Unaided Institutes:

(Against Institute Level Seats, Vacant seats after the completion of CAP rounds) Diploma holders who have passed the Diploma course in Engineering/Technology with minimum of 50% marks and medium of instruction as English from the Polytechnics affiliated to MSBTE or AICTE approved autonomous Polytechnics in Maharashtra State ( for Maharashtra State Candidates) or such polytechnics situate inside/outside the State of Maharashtra (for Outside Maharashtra State Candidates).

 General Notes:

 In case the maximum marks in individual subjects is other than 100 or total marks other than 300, then while converting marks out of 100 or total out of 300, no rounding off of the marks will be done. If the converted marks work out to be a figure with fraction, fraction up to two decimal places will only be considered e.g. if marks obtained (after conversion) added together work out to be 149.99 out of 300 (134.99 out of 300 for Reserved category MS candidate) then such a candidate will not be eligible for seeking admission to Degree courses in Engineering.

 If letter grades are assigned instead of marks at SSC, HSC or its equivalent examination the candidate must obtain the certificate of conversion of letter of grades into marks from the competent authority where from the candidate has passed the examination. The candidate should produce such certificate at the time of submission of application form. The Eligibility shall be decided based on the equivalent marks submitted by such candidates.

 If the candidate reappears for the qualifying examination (Std. XII or its equivalent) with all subjects then the marks obtained in the latest examination will only be considered for determining the eligibility criterion.
