ENTRANCE TEST (SET): For Undergraduate Programmes

Symbiosis
Entrance Test (SET) is a common written test for the admission
processes of undergraduate institutes of Symbiosis International
University [SIU] established under section 3 of the UGC Act
1956 vide notification No.F.9.12/2001 U.3 of the Govt. of
India. Subsequently ten more Institutes of Symbiosis have
been brought under the ambit of Symbiosis International University
vide notification No.F.9.12/2006-U.3 (A).
It is a mandatory written test for the admission process for
the undergraduate programmes of these Symbiosis institutes.
However, it is only the first step. Each Symbiosis institute
has its independent selection process.

Stages Involved in
SET:
A student aspiring to pursue an undergraduate programme
at Symbiosis needs to follow the 3 stages mentioned below:
Stage-1: SET Test
Register
online at www.set-test.org
Candidates
can register either for General or for Design or for both.
Follow the instructions for payment of Test fee of Rs. 800/-
on this website for both streams.
On closing of Registration, print “Admit Card”
from the website.
Paste a recent photograph on the Admit Card.
Bring the Admit Card on which the photograph is pasted and
a Photo Identity to the Test Center.
(Candidates shall preserve the Admit Card
till the Admission process of the desired Symbiosis Institutes
is over. If the Admit card is lost, no duplicate Admit Card
will be issued.)
Appear for the Test.
Stage-2:
Submit Application form to the desired SIU’s constituent
institutes.
Purchase the prospectus and application form of the desired
institute.
The SET website allows a facility for online purchase of prospectus
& application form for all of these institutes
and also pay SET fee.
Complete the application procedure of the desired institute.
Apply for both General and Design.
Apply also for one or more SIU’s constituent institutes.
Stage-3:
Attend further selection process of the chosen institutes,
if called.
Each institute has its own weightages for arriving at a cutoff,
depending on its focused field as mentioned
in the prospectus of each constituent institute.
The institutes will announce a short list for attending further
selection process.
The individual institute as per their schedules will announce
Merit List & Waiting Lists.
For details of selection process and schedules please refer
to the prospectus of respective institutes.
Important:
While
adequate care is taken in ensuring that there are no mistakes
in reading the answer sheet by the scanning
machine, there is no provision of revaluation of the answer
sheet of any candidate.
The scores published by the Symbiosis Test Secretariat shall
be final and shall not be subject to any appeal
or revaluation.
The SET Score card will be available on the website for a
period of one month from the date of declaration
of results i.e. June 19, 2008.
Those candidates paying through cash or DD, should ensure
that
1. Axis Bank (formerly UTI Bank) Challan for cash
payment, OR
2. Demand Draft along with Payment Advice
Form for DD payment reaches Symbiosis Test Secretariat by
20 April 2008. Symbiosis Test Secretariat will not be held
responsible for non-delivery or any delay on the part of Courier
/ Postal Services.
Symbiosis
Entrance Test (SET) Structure:
SET is an objective test and has 150 questions.
SET question paper for ‘Design’ is for those seeking
admission to Symbiosis Centre of Design and SET question paper
for ‘General’ is for admission to all other Institutes.
Structure of General Aptitude Test:
SET is an aptitude test and is objective
in nature. Each question has four options as answers and carries
one mark for correct answer. There is no negative marking
for wrong answers.

Symbiosis Entrance Test (SET) Fees
and Instructions for Payment:
Step
1. Candidate can select both General and Design by
registering separately and making payment separately. Register
at www.set-test.org. This will generate your SET ID. For different
modes of payment, different ‘Payment Advice’ formats
are created. Choose a payment mode and print a ‘Payment
Advice’ form online.
Step 2. Pay a non-refundable fee of Rs.
800/- for General and Rs.800/- for Design separately if candidate
desires to apply for both according to the payment mode. You
have three choices for payment.
CASH
This ‘Payment Advice’ form is in three parts.
Pay Rs. 800/- in cash at Axis Bank [ formely UTI Bank] branch
in your city. Refer to the list of branches on the website.
The bank will return two parts of the ‘Payment
Advice’ form to you. The ‘Student copy’
is your receipt.
Sign the Symbiosis copy of the ‘Payment
Advice’ form stamped by Axis Bank [formely UTI] and
send it to,

Get
a crossed demand draft for Rs. 800/- from any Bank in favour
of “Symbiosis Entrance Test” payable
at Pune.
Sign
the single copy of the ‘Payment Advice’ for Demand
Draft and send it along with Demand Draft to the

PAYMENT THROUGH CREDIT CARD
You may pay directly through either Master or Visa card online.

The SET website allows a facility for online purchase of prospectus
& application form along with online
payment of SET fee for the institutes listed on the Screen.

Step 3. Admit Card should be printed from the website.This
will be operative on closing of registration on April 15,
2008 and will remain open till May 3 rd, 2008. Ensure the
following.
Print the Admit Card online
Paste your own photograph on the on-line Admit Card.
Bring the Admit card with photograph pasted on it to the Test
Center in addition to a photo-identity. An
acceptable photo identity is any one of the following:

Passport

Driving license

College / Institute identity
card
-
Credit card with photograph.
At the time of the written test, it is mandatory to produce
the photo identity as described here. Symbiosis
Authorized Person will verify and authenticate your Admit
Card against the photo-id.
Please preserve this authenticated Admit Card for further
selection processes of individual Institutes.
Please note that no duplicate Admit Card
will be issued in case it is lost by the candidate.
Important:
SET Registration Fee is non-refundable.Please note that claims
for refund of the SET Registration fee will not be entertained
on any account.
Symbiosis
Entrance Test (SET) Guidelines:
1. For
Design Test, reach the Test Centre latest by 8.45 a.m. The
test procedure will start at 9.00 a.m. Candidates
will not be admitted after 9.30 a.m.
2. For General Test, reach the Test Centre
latest by 1:00 p.m. The test procedure will start at 1:30
p.m. Candidates will not be admitted
after 2:00 p.m..
3. Bring the following to the Test Centre:
a. Admit Card: without which you will not
be allowed to take the test.
b. Photo identity: Any one of the Following:
- Passport

Driving license
-
College/Institute identity
card
-
Credit card with photograph.
c. Blue/Black ballpoint pen.
d. For SET Design only colour pencils, pastels
and sketch pens are allowed. Use of wet media like water colours,
posters colours etc. is not allowed.
3. Cell phones, calculators, watch calculators,
alarm clocks, digital watches with built in calculators/ memory
etc. will not be allowed in the examination hall.
4. Occupy the seat allotted to you by verifying
the SEAT No. written on the desk and indicated in your Admit
Card.
5. The Test Invigilator will check your Admit
Card.
6. The Test booklet will be distributed just
before the starting time of the Test. When you get the test
booklet, make sure that the booklet is in sealed condition.
If the seal is found broken or tampered with, please bring
this matter immediately to the notice of the invigilator.
7. The test invigilators will instruct you
to open the seals of the test booklet 5 minutes before the
start of the Test.
8. Check immediately that all the pages of
the booklet are in order. In the rare event of the Test Booklet
being defective, bring it to the notice of the invigilator
immediately who will arrange for the replacement of test booklet,
if required.
9. You will get two hours and thirty minutes
to answer the questions for both Design and General Tests.
You are free to work on different sections of the question
paper in any order.
10. You are not allowed to leave the Hall
till the Test is over and until the Invigilator collects the
answer sheets and Test Booklet. You will be allowed to leave
the hall only after the answer sheets of all the candidates
in your hall have been collected and accounted for.
11. Candidates found using any unfair means
will forfeit their chance of being considered for admission
and will be debarred from receiving SET scores.
12. Invigilator or Symbiosis Test Secretariat
Representative will stamp and authenticate your Admit Card.
