Conducted by Educational Testing Service, Princeton New Jersey,
SAT is required by most of the colleges for undergraduate
admissions. SAT scores form an important criterion to assess
the eligibility of the students for admissions as well as
for scholarships and other financial aids. It is also important
to
remember that SAT is only one of the number of factors that
colleges consider when making admission decisions. Other factors,
like your high school record, essays, recommendations, interviews,
and extracurricular activities, also play a role in admission
decisions.
SAT is held about 6-7 times a year. Anyone interested is eligible
for taking the SAT. The SAT test scores are valid for five
years. In India, it is conducted at Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata,
Chennai, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Pune, Cochin, Kodaikanal and
Mussoorie,
The
SAT:
The SAT tests include SAT I which is the General Reasoning
Test and SAT II which is the Subject Test
Both are primarily MCQ tests.
Scores:
The SAT has three scores, each on the scale of 200 to 800.
Writing (W 200-800), Mathematics (M 200- 800), and Critical
Reading (CR 200-800).
SAT-I: Reasoning Test
The SAT-I is a 3 hour, primarily MCQ test that measures Verbal
& Mathematical Reasoning abilities that develop over time.
Most colleges require SAT-I scores for admission.
- Verbal questions test your ability to understand and analyze
what you read, recognize relationships between parts of a
sentence, establish relationships between pairs of words.
- Math questions test your ability to solve problems involving
Arithmetic, Algebra and Geometry
SAT-II
: Subject Tests:
The SAT-II
Subject tests are 1 hour, MCQ tests that measure your knowledge
of particular subjects and
your ability to apply it. Many universities may require SAT-II
scores along with SAT-I.
