• ICSE to challenge jr college admissions  •

Mumbai Edition, 17th July 2008

Mumbai
: The ICSE board’s western region is all set to intervene in the legal battle before the Bombay high court against the state’s new ‘normalisation’ process for admissions to FYJC courses across the state. The latest development may cause a flutter as they contend that their representation was not adequate, if at all, when the state was deciding to introduce its new formula for calculating percentile scores.

There are over 70 ICSE schools. A large number of principals of these schools met on Wednesday to chalk out a strategy to set right what they feel is a discriminatory move by the state government. Sources said they discussed the option of intervening as well as the petition filed by a Std X student of St Mary’s High School in Mazgaon who had challenged the government’s percentile system.

A division bench, headed by the Chief Justice, will hear the matter. The HC had asked the petitioner to point out any violation of his constitutional rights and the state to point out how the percentile formula could be justified in law.
