• 7 colleges under varsity okayed •

Pune: Seven new professional and law colleges have been sanctioned on a permanent nogrant basis in the University of Pune (UoP) jurisdiction by the state department for higher and technical education.

A notification to this effect was issued by the government on Monday. Barring one college, which will be offering law courses, the remaining colleges were cleared for offering bachelors courses in business administration (BBA), computer application (BCA) and computer science (BCS).

In sanctioning these colleges, the department has overlooked the university’s negative recommendation for two institutions — Subhadra Education Society’s law college at Morwadi, Pimpri, and the Chaitanya Education Institute’s college for BCS course. The government has justified the move on the grounds that the two colleges will meet the demand of people residing in the respective locations.

The other sanctioned institutions are: Audyogik Tantra Shikshan Sanstha’s college at MIDC Chinchwad (BBA/BCA courses); D.Y. Patil Education Institute’s college, Chinchwad (BCA) and at MIDC Chikhli (BBA); Varka Charitable Institute’s college at Ahmednagar (BCA/BCS) and the Asian Academy of Education and Research’s college at Bibvewadi (BBA/BCA).
